Caring Committee

L’shana tova.  During the “days of awe” the priorities of life are seen and felt more clearly. We all feel a little closer to our friends and family and their importance to us.  We care a little more. The TAS Caring Committee (TAS/CC) is here to act on those feelings throughout the year, attempting to fulfill our mission “to assist TAS members and their families in need”. During the year we have visited members in the hospital, provided meals for members who, due to illness or other circumstances, couldn’t help themselves, provided rides to Temple services, medical appointments or other Temple or community events.

Please help us with our mission:

•  By informing Lois Fine, Rabbi’s secretary, of those TAS members who are in need. We can’t help, if we don’t know.  Lois or the Rabbi will inform us and thus the process begins.

•  By joining the TAS/CC your commitment to the CC means that you may be able to assist for a given “need” (drive, prepare meals, etc.) when it arises. The process is simple: the Rabbi or Lois informs us of a situation. We contact the member and assess the need and determine what we can provide. Then we email the CC membership to inform them of the current need and coordinate the services to be rendered.

The CC member is only responsible for that which they volunteer. Come join the “mitzvah mavens” (Marshall’s nickname for the CC).

If you are concerned about how to “deal with the sick”, we have a program for you. TAS, BYBS, and Am Echad are proud to sponsor a Bikur Cholim (visiting the sick) training with The Jewish Healing Network of Chicago.  This training is open to all Temple members and will be held at TAS on three Sundays, October 26th, November 2nd, and November 9th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. If interested, please contact Lois Fine and make your reservation.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year,

Vicki and Marshall Meilach

Co-Chairs TAS/CC

The greater our numbers, the more services we can provide.  Please contact Marshall (marsbox@aol.com)or Vicki Meilach (flowrjoy@aol.com), 708-481-7721, co-chairs of the Caring Committee and let us know of your desire to be in our “mitzvah corps” and what service(s) you would like to participate. Of course, your ability to provide a particular service will always be on an “as available” basis).  It will make you feel good from the inside out!
