TAS Library Happenings Featured Author for NovemberNaomi Ragen An internationally bestselling author and influential Jewish commentator, Naomi Ragen has written seven novels, an award winning play and is an outspoken political commentator. Born in New York, she has lived and worked in Jerusalem for the past 38 years. She is an Orthodox woman and an advocate for gender equality, forcefully opposing religious extremists. Last year, NPR called her the “the Rosa Parks” of Israel, for refusing to sit in the back of the bus as a protest against segregated buses. Her novels include “Jephte’s Daughter”, a book about a wealthy American businessman who decides to honor his religious inheritance by forcing his 18 year old daughter into an arranged marriage. “The Sacrifice of Tamar” is a story about a young bride in one of Brooklyn’s insulated ultra-Orthodox enclaves. She struggles to reconcile her faith after a brutal assault and the inevitable, tragic aftermath. The novel “Sotah” completes her trilogy of the contemporary world of ultra-Orthodoxy. Her novels will be on the featured author display rack. |
